Chindogu (2004-2008) are Clay Chaplin and Sean Rooney. They make live improvised computer music using homegrown software instruments. Combining pop-culture samples in a mix that’s by turns dense, frenzied, rhythmic and melodic, they are a strange implement, an idea that exists on the edge of reason. Chindogu: the art of the unuseless idea.
Sean and I collaborated and performed together for a few years, mainly in the LA and San Francisco areas. We put together four tracks in the studio which were posted online a number of years ago. At the time, Sean reported that we had sort of a cult following mostly from Japan and our tracks were downloaded and traded (for free of course – yay Napster!) thousands of times. This album is the collection of those tracks plus a live recording from a gallery show.
