Reynisfjara is a structured improvisation centered around a slow panning video shot at Reynisfjara beach in Iceland. Field recordings from the natural landscape of Iceland and electronic textures and samples are woven together to create an ambient, meditative performance.
Reynisfjara was originally commissioned by Indexical in Santa Cruz, CA in May of 2020. A performance was live-streamed during the pandemic via Indexical’s Twitch concert series. Many of the samples used in the work were uploaded ahead of time by various sound artists who were invited by Indexical to contribute sounds to the piece as a means to engage the creative community during the pandemmic.
The video above was recorded live during the Indexical livestream from 2020. It does not reflect the multi-channel aspect of the soundfield that one would hear in a live concert setting.
