BRIDGE (2007-2008)
Apple laptops are suspended in the gallery space on swings. Patrons are invited to push and swing the laptops throughout the space. Attached to each laptop is an accelerometer which calculates the laptops’ movement in space on three axises. The accelerometer data is transferred via a wireless network to one of the other laptops which then responds soncially and visually to the other’s movement. Each laptop has a video camera attached to the top of the screen which is activated when movement is senesed on a different laptop providing an altered perspective of the gallery space. Sounds are randomly generated and processed based on remote acclerometer data and are played back via each laptop’s internal speakers. The scenario requires patrons to interact with the laptops, the gallery space, and other patrons.
